2525 Pembina Hwy - The ARC

Winnipeg, Manitoba

 

Overview:

Development of a 16-storey private, purpose built student housing residence located across from the University of Manitoba on 1.5 acres. This project is the first of its kind in Winnipeg, where bike parking surpasses car parking over 2:1 ratio and introduces a separate bike parking building. 

Challenges:

Transitioning from auto-focused, suburban development to a new standard in walkable, urban development along a major corridor. While meeting a need for student housing in the area, the project challenged the status quo as it relates to form, density, and the role of the car in development. Extensive work with City authorities and adjacent neighbourhood was required.
